Jemilev to speak at the UN Security Council today

Today, March 31, leader of Crimean Tatars Mustafa Jemilev will speak at the meeting of the UN Security Council in New York, informs press service of Mejlis of Crimean Tatars.

Jemilev will have a floor at 15.00 (New York time), at 23.00 (local time in Crimea).

Jemilev is also to meet with Senator John McCain and representatives of the Crimean Tatar community in the U.S.

UN Security Council meeting in New York will take place at the initiative of Ukraine and Lithuania.  The main theme of the meeting is the situation in Crimea.   

To recall, the UN General Assembly recognized the Crimean referendum on the accession to the Russian Federation illegal.  This is stated in the resolution “On the territorial integrity of Ukraine”.  The document was adopted at the UN General Assembly on March 27, 2014 in New York.  100 countries voted for the resolution, 58 countries abstained and 11 countries voted against.
