On September 5, head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev had a meeting with the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Leonid Novohat’ko, informs press service of Mejlis. The main topic of the meeting was the draft law “On the concept of the state ethnic policy in Ukraine”, which was submitted by Jemilev this June for consideration of Verkhovnaya Rada of Ukraine as well as draft law on the same topic which was developed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. In the course of discussion the Culture Minister expressed interest in the adoption of the document that lays foundation for the formation of the full-fledged state ethnic policy, which unfortunately have not been adopted during all 22 years of Ukraine’s independence. In turn, Jemilev said that in case the draft laws submitted by him and the Cabinet of Ministers have coinciding visions of key issues, he, as people’s deputy of Ukraine may withdraw his draft concept for the ‘early adoption of the draft proposed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine’. The meeting also discussed other important issues of cultural development of Crimea. To recall, on July 5, MP of Ukraine and head of Crimean Tatar Mejlis Mustafa Jemilev has registered a draft law “On the concept of the state ethnic policy in Ukraine” at Verkhovnaya Rada of Ukraine. An explanatory note to the document said that this law would provide for unified understanding of principles and goals of the state ethnic policy thus preventing free on-site interpretations of the state policy regarding national minorities.
