During a meeting at the UN Headquarters, Japanese President Shinzo Abe promised Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko continued economic support if Ukraine stays on the reform track.

“We are prepared to intensify our political efforts in helping Ukraine solve its problems. If Ukraine continues down the reform path, Japan will provide economic aid,” said Shinzo Abe.

Japan has already allocated a total of USD 1,8 billion in financial aid to Ukraine. However, it does not want the funds to be misappropriated by corrupted officials, which is why it urges Ukraine to intensify reforms, and especially anti-corruption ones.
