The so-called ‘Crimea’s Deputy Prime Minister’ Ruslan Balbec wants Ukraine to extradite Lenur Islyamov, Coordinator of Crimea blockade, to Russia where he is wanted on charges of ‘engaging in subversive activities’. Islyamov also had a criminal case initiated against him for ‘creating a paramilitary unit on Ukraine’s border with Crimea’, reports RIA Novosti.
According to Ruslan Balbec, the Ukrainian authorities should abide by an international extradition treaty and place Islyamov, who holds Russian citizenship, under arrest and extradite him to Russia. Balbec also noted that Islyamov will be given an opportunity to ‘face trial in Russia and repent his crimes’.
Commenting on Balbec’s statement, Lenur Islyamov said that Balbec is not a legitimate representative of the Crimean government, not to mention the Crimean Tatar people. Therefore, statements like this sound funny, to say the least.
“Ruslan Balbec will get a chance to say all that at an international court where he will be tried for what he did. He has betrayed his own people, the Crimean Tatar people. My grandfather used to say: "No matter how tough the going gets, always stay with your own people. Because people can never be wrong’. This is my message to Balbec and his like, who have sold out their own people for 15 pieces of silver,” Islyamov said in an interview with QHA.
Islyamov went on to say that every Crimean Tatar has a Russian passport now, but ‘unlike Balbec and his kind’ he got his 20 years ago. He received his Ukrainian passport as a Crimean Tatar, so he was at liberty to choose his citizenship.
“The most important thing is that I'll be with the Crimean Tatar people, no matter what. Unlike Balbec, I am not going to stay there (in Russian-occupied Crimea - QHA) and be on the Russian occupants’ payroll after what they did with Crimea. It is no longer the Russia me and Aider (Muzhdabaev - QHA) lived in for 20 years. The Russia in which a lot of patriots, including those of Russia, used to live. What Russia is now doing with the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians is simply despicable,” said Islyamov.
Islyamov added that Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars have become a political nation today, which is identified with freedom of man. According to him, the Crimean Tatar people will always be with Ukraine and there can be no two ways about it.
