(QHA) -

The International Criminal Police Organization-- Interpol-- has placed ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovich and two members of his former government on the international wanted list at the behest of Ukraine, according to a notice on its website on Monday.

He was accused by Ukrainian officials of embezzlement and financial wrongdoing. Former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov was also listed though it was not clear what the Ukrainian charges against him were.

Under a red notice, Interpol's role is described as assisting a national police force in "identifying and locating these persons with a view to their arrest and extradition or similar lawful action".

Yanukovych, 64, was last seen in a photograph with US film director Oliver Stone, which was said to have been taken in Moscow in December, BBC Kiev correspondent David Stern reports.

Russia is unlikely to grant any request to extradite Yanukovich to Ukraine, according to Interfax.
