US-led coalition against the Islamic State voiced concern about the Russian air raids on the rebel bases in Syria, calling on Moscow to focus on the fight against terrorism, according to Reuters.
Representatives of the United States, Britain, France, Turkey and a number of Gulf countries, which are coalition members, say that the actions of the Russian army will lead to a further conflict escalation and thus only strengthens extremist sentiments in the country.
Russia launched a series of air strikes on Syrian territory, responding to a request for help by Bashar al-Assad. The Kremlin called it operation against the Islamists. Assad regime is waging war against both ISIL and the united opposition, supported by the Western countries.
Lebanese media reported earlier that Russian aircraft bombed not only the ISIL positions, but also Assad’s opponents, including the Al-Qaeda Syrian wing, located in the north-west of the country.
