BERLIN (QHA) -

Anti-Russian sanctions will be abolished as soon as Russia fulfills its international obligations, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas stated.

According to him, sanctions are not ends in themselves, but have a clear reason.

“Namely: The annexation of the Crimea in defiance of international law and the actions of Russia in the East of Ukraine. And they have a clearly defined goal - to change Russia's behavior," he said.

According to the diplomat, agreements exist stipulating that sanctions will be lifted only when the Russian Federation stops aggression against Ukraine.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who was appointed on March 14, in his first statement as Foreign Minister condemned the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

Maas said that Berlin does not accept the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia and the ongoing aggression in the East of Ukraine.
