BERLIN (QHA) -

According to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Germany is ready to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation in the event of military aggression against Ukraine.

- Sanctions can be lifted as soon as Russia fulfills these (Minsk) Agreements. Nevertheless, we are ready to increase the costs for Russia, should its actions make this necessary, said the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier as cited by Reuters.

The EU sanctions against Russia expire July, 31. Next week, the European Union should decide whether to extend these sanctions targeting Russia’s energy, banking and defense sectors. As QHA reported earlier, June 17 the European Union has taken a decision to extend economic sanctions against Russia’s temporarily occupied Crimea.
