In her speech to Verkhovna Rada, Iryna Gerashchenko, Ukrainian MP from Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction, voiced the number of prisoners who should be released. She confirmed that the issue of prisoners is under constant control of Ukraine’s President.
“Yesterday, thanks to the efforts of Ukraine’s President, the SSU (Security Service of Ukraine), the Ministry of Defense and humanitarian subgroup of Minsk, we were able to release 3 Ukrainian heroes, who were held in captivity with serious injuries for more than a year,” Iryna Gerashchenko reported.
According to the Commissioner of President for Peaceful Settlement of Situation in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions, militants hold 124 captives, including civilians.
“Negotiations for the release of hostages are very arduous and I urge deputies not to speculate on this delicate subject, considering how it can affect the captives' families,” she addressed to MPs.
Gerashchenko also said that President wants to obtain access for the Red Cross to the occupied territory, as well as to find 693 people missing in action in Donbas.
