The general coordinator of QHA news agency Ismet Yuksel was banned from entering Crimea for 5 years. He was turned back on Aug. 9 when he tried to enter Crimea from mainland Ukraine. No reason was given.
Yuksel and his family were returning from Turkey after vocations devoted to Muslim Oraza Bayram. They were making their way through Ukrainian capital Kyiv, as Crimean airports do not operate international flights since Crimea joined Russia.
Yuksel is the third prominent Crimean Tatar to be banned since Crimean annexation by Russia, after Crimean Tatar leader Mustafa Jemilev and head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov.
Yuksel serves as an advisor to the Mejlis on relations with Turkey, who lives in Crimea for 20 years.
