PARIS (QHA) -

France does not recognize the illegal annexation of the Crimea and supports the full restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The Ambassador of Ukraine in France Oleg Shamshur published a corresponding official statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France on Twitter.

The statement of the French Foreign Ministry was timed to the third anniversary of the annexation of Crimea by Russia.

“Three years after the Russian annexation of Crimea, France, as before, remains committed to full restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.”

The annexation of the Crimea has become a direct threat to international security and has led to serious consequences at the world level, recognize in France.

“Neglect of borders contradicts international law, it is a direct threat to international security and it leads to serious consequences for the international order, which defends the unity and sovereignty of all states.”

France expresses its concern with Russian militarization of the Crimea and calls for ensuring access to the peninsula for the international human rights organizations. The French Foreign Ministry insists on the release of political prisoners in the Crimea as well.

“France is concerned about the militarization of the peninsula and the deterioration of the human rights situation, in particular among the Crimean Tatars. Pursuant to the UN General Assembly Resolution 71/205 of December 19, 2016, it is extremely important that regional and international human rights monitoring mechanisms and non-governmental organizations defending human rights were provided with unhindered access to the entire territory of Ukraine, including the Crimea and Sevastopol. France calls for the release of all persons detained in violation of international law.”

Reference: Russian Federation occupied the Crimea in February-March 2014, calling the rigged referendum on March 16 "the will of Crimeans to join Russia." Most of the world's countries did not recognize Crimea as Russian territory and imposed a series of economic sanctions against Russia. For Ukraine, the Crimea remains a temporarily occupied territory.
