French lawmaker Thierry Mariani will have to leave the post of Vice President of the European People's Party group at the PACE due to his visit to Crimea in June this year. He is also a deputy of French National Assembly and a co-chairman of Franco-Russian Dialogue Association.
According to the politician, his trip to the peninsular as well as his statements ‘caused concern among the members of the group’; therefore, he received a letter from the PACE asking him to leave the position.
Just a reminder: a group of 10 French deputies visited Crimea in July 2015. Hence, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE, Volodymyr Ariev filed a request to the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe to consider the powers of Mariani.
