During a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, after the completion of the bilateral meeting held in Kyiv, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland underlined the necessity of remembering about the suffering of Crimean Tatars due to the Russian occupation of Crimea.

“I think that it is very important for us not to forget about the suffering of the Crimean Tatars. I am very glad that I had the opportunity to attend breakfast at the Vienna dedicated to the Crimean Tatars, and to hear directly at first hand about what was happening in Crimea," Freeland stated.

She also told about her meeting with Rex Tillerson, US Secretary of State in Ottawa this week.

“We had a long talk. Ukraine was one of the main topics. This was one of our big topics, we also talked about the work of Kurt Volker, the Special Representative of the US Department of State for Ukraine,” Freeland stated.

Earlier, QHA reported that December 7, at the meeting of the EU foreign ministers held in the capital of Austria, Deputy Chairmen of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz and Ilmi Umerov discussed the Russian repression in Crimea.
