During his visit to Russia, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian warned that Moscow's failure to comply with the Minsk agreements could lead to further deterioration of relations between the Russian Federation and the EU. The diplomat made a corresponding statement at a joint news conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The French politician noted that France, like Germany, is ready to mediate in the negotiations within the "Normandy format".
“The longer we linger and do not act, the less contact lines remain and the longer the prospect of resolving this crisis is removed. Thus, the relations between the European Union and Russia are deteriorating also”, the French Foreign Minister said.
However, Lavrov traditionally answered that “Moscow expects the implementation of the Minsk agreements first from Ukraine”.
Earlier, on June 20 US Vice President Mike Pence during a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expressed support to the "Normandy format" and "Minsk-2" in settling the crisis in Donbas.
