French Ambassador to Ukraine Isabelle Dumont said that France handled the case very seriously, and is closely monitoring the developments regarding the arrest of Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko.
“We know very well the journalist Sushchenko... He is well-known in Paris, since he was accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and frequently attended press conferences at the Ministry. Therefore, we are monitoring the situation very closely and actively,” the diplomat said.
Roman Sushchenko, a journalist for Ukrinform edition, was unlawfully detained by Russian law enforcement officers on suspicion of "espionage" in Moscow on September 30. Russian FSB (Federal Security Service) traditionally states that Ukrainian correspondent allegedly is a "collaborator of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry."
Mark Feigin, lawyer of Roman Sushchenko, is going to France to "seek involvement of the local establishment" in the trial of the journalist.
