Maya Kociancic, spokesperson of EU High representative for Foreign Affairs, announced that the EU does not recognize results of the pseudo-referendums held in some areas of Luhansk and Donetsk regions of Ukraine, Chanel 24 reports.
European Union calls “referendums” illegitimate, and those, who organize them, as the ones who do not have democratic legitimacy. Procedure of voting, EU representative states, “violates the aim of joint Geneva Statement – de-escalation of tension.”
Foreign Ministry of Great Britain expressed regret that in Ukraine separatists, “who create many problems in the lives of peaceful citizens,” still hold the so-called “referendum.” And added that all Ukrainians will have a possibility for democratic choice at the May 25 presidential elections.
According to the provisional results, announced by the so-called head of the Central Elections Commission of the self-proclaimed "People's republic of Donetsk" Roman Lyahin, 89.07 % voted in favor of the independence in Donetsk region, turnover is 74.87%.
The sociologists claims the vast majority of Donetsk and Luhansk region inhabitants have ignored the so-called "referendum" thus they didn't supported the insurgents.
Meanwhile, the comission, organizing territorial survey on Luhansk and Donetsk regions to join Dnipropetrovsk region, claimed that about 2.5 million gave positive feedback.
