PARIS (QHA) -

Euronews corrected a mistake in an article on deportation of Crimean Tatars, erroneously stating that two million Crimean Tatars were deported in 1944.

A message posted before the corrected article reads: "The text has been updated to amend the figure given for the number of deportations in the first paragraph."

It was reported earlier that the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova demanded an apology from Euronews for an article about the Day of Remembrance of Crimean Tatars’ Deportation.

According to Zakharova, it was stated in the Russian section of Euronews’s website that over 200,000 Crimea Tatars were deported from Crimea on May 18-20, 1944. However, according to an article about the Day of Remembrance of Crimean Tatars’ Deportation posted in the English section of the website, 2,000,000 Crimean Tatars were deported in 1944.
