A high level delegation from the European Union is arriving in Turkey on Monday to press Turkish officials not to undermine the EU sanctions against Russia.
The delegation includes EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides.
Mogherini and the commissioners are expected to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, EU Affairs Minister Volkan Bozkır and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
The high level visit comes only a week after Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Turkey.
Putin has announced that Russia would stop the construction of the South Stream natural gas pipeline project to supply gas to Europe without crossing Ukraine, and named Turkey as its preferred partner for an alternative pipeline.
