The EU would never recognize the annexation of Crimea, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security of the EU Policy Federica Mogherini announced.
"We will never recognize change of borders by force. Not now, not in this century, not in this millennium. We even do not expect such a possibility," – announced Mogherini at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, while participating in the debate on Ukraine.
She also advocated for the continuation of the current level of sanctions against Russia in the absence of changes in the situation in Ukraine.
It suggests EU sanctions should be bundled into two packages: measures related to the annexation of Crimea and others linked to “destabilization of eastern Ukraine”.
Crimea seceded from Ukraine and was annexed by Russia in March, following a local referendum, which was condemned as illegitimate by international community.
