The EU Council has approved Federica Mogherini's proposal for new sanctions for Crimea.

Foreign Ministers from the Council of European Union approved the extension of sanctions related to the annexation of the Crimea and Sevastopol.

"The Council in general confirmed its support for the proposal of the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for additional restrictive measures of the EU in response to the illegal annexation of the Crimea and Sevastopol. Technical discussion of the proposal is still in place," – said the statement after the meeting.

It was reported earlier that the EU is considering expanding the ban on investment in Crimea, including a ban on sale of technology for oil and gas exploration as well as tourist businesses' management by the European companies in the Crimea.
