As part of a visit to Brussels, Pavlo Klimkin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, held a meeting with Federica Mogherini Vice-President of the European Commission, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The parties discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine, the progress of the Minsk agreements implementation, as well as Ukraine's progress on the internal reforms implementation.
Klimkin stressed the inadmissibility of the local elections in the temporary occupied territories of Ukraine, since it will circumvent the implementation of Minsk agreements and impede a political solution to the conflict.
The High Representative confirmed the European Union’s commitment to support the execution of the agreements, the Normandy format activities for the restoration of the territorial integrity and peace in Ukraine, as well as non-recognition of Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol.
The two parties shared attitude on the indisputable functioning of the deep and comprehensive EU-Ukraine free trade zone as of Jan. 1, 2016.
During the meeting special attention was paid to the implementation of the Action Plan on visa liberalization, which is to start with the introduction of the EU visa-free entry for Ukrainian citizens, as well as to the arrangements for the signing of the EU-Ukraine Common Aviation Area Agreement.
