The Kingdom of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates reported on breaking diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the country's government of supporting terrorism. Following them, the similar decision was taken by Yemen, Libya, the Maldives and Mauritius, according to DW.
The Kingdom of Bahrain withdraws all the embassy employees from the neighboring country, the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain reported.
This decision was taken “in view of the ongoing actions on the part of the Qatar State aimed at destabilizing the region and security of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as interference in internal affairs, incitement the media, supporting terrorism and providing financial assistance to groups affiliated with Iran to spread chaos in Bahrain”.
Reportedly, sea and air traffic have been closed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain has demanded from the diplomatic representatives of Qatar to leave the country in the next 48 hours. At the same time, the subjects of the Kingdom are prohibited from visiting Qatar, and citizens of Qatar, who are in Bahrain, are obliged to leave it within 14 days, they will be refused entry into the country and transit through its territory.
The government of Saudi Arabia explained this decision with security considerations.
“The decision was made to close air, sea and land border terminals, as well as to ban transit, air communication and use of the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Qatar”.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry added that Qatar spreads the ideology of the Al-Qaida and the Islamic State terrorist groups and “contributes to division in the Arab society”.
Emirates, Etihad Airways, Flydubai (UAE), Saudia (Saudi Arabia), Gulf Air (Bahrain) and Egypt Air (Egypt) airlines canceled flights to the capital of Qatar.
The authorities of Qatar called the decision on the severance of diplomatic relations as unjustified and rejected accusations of involvement in the support of terrorists. The Emirate authorities promised to do their utmost these measures not to affect the Qatar economics.
The coalition led by Saudi Arabia announced about withdrawal of Qatar participation in a joint military operation against the Houthis, who controlled over the large part of the Yemen territory.
Earlier, the leaders of the Arab peoples supported the idea of forming the “Al-Jazeera and the Euphrates Army” to end the invasion of Islamic state and PYD terrorists.
