Eid al-Fitr holiday is proclaimed day off in Crimea

September 12, Muslims in Crimea will not have to work at the Feast of the Sacrifice.

The so-called head of the Crimea Sergey Aksenov signed a decree proclaiming the feast of Eid al-Fitr a holiday. The text of the document is available online on the Crimean "government" website.

“Declare September 12, 2016 a non-working public holiday on the occasion of Eid al-Adha,” reads the decree.

Eid al-Adha is one of the major Islamic festivals, marking the end of the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca. It is celebrated in 70 days after Oraz Bairam holiday, on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah, to commemorate the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim.
