Presidential Commissioner for Affairs of the Crimean Tatar people in Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev in an interview with "Voice of America" shared the opinion that the pre-election statements of Donald Trump on the recognition of the annexation of Crimea were due to lack of awareness of the situation.
Dzhemilev believes that the Republican Party of the United States will provide their member Donald Trump with more detailed information on the issue.
“Mr. Trump said that he had heard something about a referendum in Crimea, and that the inhabitants of Crimea allegedly wanted to be occupied, but I think this is due to lack of familiarity with the situation. I think that the President’s entourage will provide him with information. The Republican Party has always supported Ukraine more than Democratic Party, so we are not pessimistic,” said Mustafa Dzhemilev.
The former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said that the Congress and the Republican Party will definitely not support the idea of recognition the annexed Crimea a Russian territory.
