SIMFEROPOL (QHA) - Active members and veterans of the Crimean Tatar national movement appealed with an open letter to delegates of Kurultay of Crimean Tatar people of VI convocation to support their initiative to elect Mustafa Dzhemilev as head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people over again during Kurultay session. Ali Hamzin, head of department of external affairs of Mejlis, said this at a press conference at QHA press center. Ali Hamzin and head of land commission of Mejlis Zevdjet Kurtumerov motivate such decision that Dzhemilev should stay head of Mejlis to conduct first International Forum on restoration of rights of Crimean Tatar people in Crimea. “We hope that the newly elected Kurultay delegates will support the initiative that Mustafa Dzhemilev should run for the post again with the sole purpose- to be head of Mejlis during the International Forum on restoration of rights of Crimean Tatar people in Crimea”, said the initiators. They noted that huge amount of work was done for preparation of the Forum. Support was received from heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations, accredited in Ukraine, deputies of the European Parliament, members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, respected European politicians and statesmen of various countries. At the same time, almost all partners note that conducting such Forum under the auspices of the OSCE will allow for maximum results addressing consequences of genocide committed against Crimean Tatar people by the totalitarian communist regime of the USSR. The authors emphasized reputation and personal merit of Mustafa Dzhemilev as a known human rights activist. They noted, at the international level, he represents the Crimean Tatar national movement and is known as the leader of the nation. Being head of Mejlis during the Forum will greatly influence the results. The initiators expressed hope for support from Kurultay delegates and suggested that all ideas and proposals regarding this issue are sent to the editorial office of ‘Avdet’ newspaper. Text of the letter is published on the website of ‘Avdet’ newspaper. To recall, the first session of Kurultay of Crimean Tatar people of VI convocation will take place on October 26-27 this year. One of the issues to be considered by the new members of Kurultay is the election of a new head of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. Earlier, the current head of Mejlis, Mustafa Dzhemilev announced that he will not run for the post again.
