Today, January 25, a regular hearing in case of “February 26” concerning a rally that took place almost two years ago is to be held outside Verkhovna Rada of Crimea.
- Traditionally, the day before hearing in case of "February 26" started with a quarter being cordoned off by police officers. A few prisoner transport vehicles and Special Police Forces are also on the spot. Turnstiles at the entrance and thorough checks. As it is cold outside, we decided to go for coffee to a nearby cafe and found out we are "watched"! Zair Smedlyaev wrote on Facebook.
Nariman Dzhelyal, Deputy Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, commented on the situation concerning the trial over "February, 26" and also wrote about the stake-out on Facebook.
- We went to a cafe to get warm and noticed we are staked out. I wonder whether they will thank us for giving them an opportunity to get warm, wrote Dzhelyal.
As QHA reported earlier, the accused include the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz and activists Mustafa Degermendzhy and Ali Asanov.
All three are being kept in custody in a pre-trial detention center-1 in the city of Simferopol. Eskender Kantemirov, Eskender Emirvaliev and Arsen Yunusov are also among defendants.
Accused in case Eskender Nebiev got two and a half year suspended sentence.
