As was reported earlier, an initiative group made up of Crimean Tatars and Ukrainian patriots is expected to announce a forthcoming peaceful blockade of Crimea at the press conference. Ongoing repressions against Crimean Tatars and representatives of other nationalities residing in Crimea are cited as a reason for initiating the blockade.
Mustafa Jemilev, Leader of Crimean Tatars, Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, and Lenur Ilyamov, Vice President of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars, who are participating in the press conference, have made a number of demands, such as:
- Release of Ukrainian political prisoners, including Nadezhda Savchenko, Oleg Sentsov, Alexander Kostenko, Akhtem Chiygoza, Mustafa Degermenji, Ali Aranov and Tair Smedlyayev;
- Removal of restrictions for Crimean Tatar media outlets in Crimea and unrestricted access of foreign journalists to Crimea;
- Putting a stop to criminal persecution of Crimean Tatars in Crimea;
- Removal of Crimea entry ban for Mustafa Jemilev, Refat Chubarov, Ismet Yuksel and Sinaver Kadyrov.
