Responsibility for the wellbeing of Crimean residents lies solely with the Russian Federation which occupied the peninsula last February.
A press conference on initiating a peaceful blockade of Crimea is scheduled to be held at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center today. An initiative group made up of Crimean Tatars and Ukrainian patriots is expected to announce a forthcoming peaceful blockade of Crimea at the press conference. Ongoing repressions against Crimean Tatars and representatives of other nationalities residing in Crimea are cited as a reason for initiating the blockade.
The press conference aims to inform Ukrainian and international public on the goals pursued by the blockade’s instigators, how the blockade is going to be put in place, as well as demands those involved in the blockade will be making on the Russian authorities.
Mustafa Jemilev, Leader of Crimean Tatars, Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, and Lenur Ilyamov, Vice President of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars, are scheduled to take part in the press conference. The press conference is due to start at 1.30 p.m.
