Crimean Tatars have more rights to the Crimean peninsula than Russia has, former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma announced during a meeting with students in Ukrainian city of Chernihiv.
“Regarding “native Russian territory”, it is known who Crimea belonged to, but not to Russia. Crimean Tatars may have more rights to Crimea as indigenous people”- he said.
“Crimean Tatars will be able to form government bodies legitimately in Crimea, using demographic advantage and hold their own referendum on joining, for example, Turkey”- he added.
Crimea was annexed by Russia in March, following Crimean referendum on peninsula’s status, a move that Kyiv and the West declared illegitimate.
