Crimean Tatar people have the right for self-determination.
Head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov noted this at the Kurultay session on March 29 in Bakhchisaray.
“In the recent times it became very popular to take decisions pointing to the right for self-determination. They should know, Crimean Tatars also have this right. It is guaranteed by number of international documents - Chubarov stressed.
At the Kurultay session in Bakhchisaray, head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov urged the delegates to vote for a draft resolution calling for the "launch of political and legal procedures (for the) national and territorial autonomy of the Crimean Tatar people on their historical territory, Crimea".
“By adoption of this document we announce the beginning of political and legal procedures to establish a national-territorial autonomy of the Crimean Tatar people in its historic territory Crimea” – Chubarov emphasized.
Our decision is based on UN declaration “on the rights of indigenous peoples”, adopted on Sept.13, 2007”- he added.
