KYIV (QHA) -

September 4, 2015. The meeting of Mustafa Jemilev and Refat Chubarov, deputies of Petro Poroshenko Block faction, with Lilja Gretarsdottir, Senior Adviser on Migration in the Human Rights Directorate of the Council of Europe (CoE), and Antonina Vyhrest, Adviser to the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Ukraine, has been held at the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, press service of Solidarnist Block reports.

The officials discussed the situation in Ukraine and the Action Plan as part of a new Council of Europe project ‘Strengthened Protection for Forcibly Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine’, to be implemented in 2017-2017.

“Now, the situation in Crimea resembles the worst times of the Soviet totalitarian regime, the Stalin’s period. There is no freedom of speech, people are kidnapped and thrown in jail. The occupation authorities are doing their utmost to force the Crimean Tatars to leave the Crimea,” said Mustafa Jemilev, leader of Crimean Tatars.

They also discussed the cooperation on the project, particularly, in the field of legislation, coordination and exchange of information, as well as other issues related to internally displaced persons.

“I am really glad that the project for assistance to internally displaced persons will be carried out. A lot of Crimean Tatars were forced to flee Crimea. It is very painful for us, because we struggled to return to our motherland for decades,” said Refat Chubarov.
