Crimean pro-government demonstrators head to Kyiv

In Simferopol, a rally in support of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych was held on December 16. In this regard, the city center was closed. After the rally, the participants left for Kyiv to defend their interests there.

About 300 people gathered in Simferopol to support the President. People held flags of Ukraine, Crimea and Party of Regions and slogans “No foreign interference into Ukraine’s affairs”, “Fascism will not work” and others.

At the end of the rally, the demonstrators went to the Simferopol train station, from where they took a train to Kyiv.

As reported, for more than three weeks Ukraine has been holding protests, referred to as EuroMaidan. People stand for European integration of Ukraine and demand resignation of the President and the government.

In response, the ruling Party of the Regions started to convene their followers in support of the President and the current government. These rallies are referred to as ‘AntiMaidan’.
