Amid current events taking place in Kyiv, Crimean Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Konstantinov has not ruled out the possibility that the Autonomous Republic may secede from Ukraine if tensions escalate further in the country.

“It can happen. Possibly” – he said.

The statement comes a day after Crimean Parliament appealed to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

In the appeal MPs called last events in Ukraine Civil War and urged the President to take extraordinary measures to preserve the constitutional order and unity in Ukraine.

There is open combat on the streets of Kyiv with protesters and security forces firing on each other and dozens of people reported dead.
