KYIV (QHA) -

April 1, a spring campaign began on the conscription of Crimean residents in the ranks of the Russian Federation Armed Forces. The military commissariats intend to call up 2,4 thousand people to military service into the Russian army. A distinctive feature of the spring draft is that Crimeans will now serve not only in the territory of the occupied Crimea, but also in other units of the RF Armed Forces.

A member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariev noted that the Russian Federation acts very cautiously in the issues of conscription of the Crimeans, although the summons to the Military Commissariats were sent to men of conscript age immediately after the occupation. However, then, the residents of the Crimea were assured that the Crimeans and Sevastopol residents will serve in the territory of the Crimea only.

“This is stipulated by the Russian legislator in Article 6 of the Federal Constitutional Law of March 21, 2014 No.6-FCL, which provides that citizens of the Russian Federation who are conscripted for military service in the "Republic of Crimea and the city of federal significance Sevastopol" serve their military duty at the bodies of military command, forces and military units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, other troops, military formations and bodies stationed on the territories of the "Republic of Crimea and the city of federal significance of Sevastopol", till 2016 inclusive,” Bariev said.

He notes that the conscription of the Crimeans to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is a war crime, and it must be punished.

"All persons who participate in this crime will be held accountable," he concluded.
