If Ukraine introduces a visa regime with Russia, then the invaders will immediately close the exit for the Crimeans, and this can sever ties with those citizens of the country who now reside in the temporarily occupied territories, according to people's deputy of Ukraine from the Solidarity faction, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov.
“I stand for maximum streamlining of the process. To make tougher conditions for some categories, if necessary: to carry out a more thorough check, additional information and investigative actions to strengthen the border guards. But the introduction of visas must have a purpose. If it is the strengthening of the country's security, then let us do everything without this decision. I know what a Russian reaction to Ukraine's decision will be: they will close out exit for Russia and also for the Crimea. We will lose any ways of communicating with the Ukrainians who live there now. We must not forget that we remain vulnerable from the point of view that millions of our citizens are in the occupied territories”, he stressed.
Earlier, in October 2016, Ukrainian Parliament initiated serious discussion of introducing the visa regime with the Russian Federation after the arrest of the Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko in Moscow and in connection with the ongoing war in Donbas. However, after long discussions of the issue, the relevant resolution was not adopted.
This week, the issue of introducing the visa regime with RF was raised again: the Verkhovna Rada is assessing the possible number of votes of people's deputies for the corresponding order.
