Delegates of Crimean Tatar National Council Kurultay gathered today in Bakhchisaray to discuss some of the most momentous choices Crimean Tatars have faced in recent time.

Head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov  proposed that indigenous Crimean Tatar people seek autonomy on the Crimean peninsula annexed from Ukraine by Russia.

Speaking to more than 200 delegates of Kurultay, Refat Chubarov said: "In the life of every nation there comes a time when it must make decisions that will determine its future."

He urged the Kurultay delegates to vote for a draft resolution calling for the "launch of political and legal procedures (for the) national and territorial autonomy of the Crimean Tatar people on their historical territory, Crimea."
