Speaker of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov commented on the statement of former Minister of the Crimea Anatoly Mogilev who alleged that the activity of Mejlis poses threat to the Ukrainian statehood.
Most of all Chubarov was indignant with Mogilev blaming the today's Ukrainian authorities with making a bet on the Crimean Tatars and the creation of the Crimean Tatar autonomy, that rejects another part of the population of Crimea.
“Firstly, it is absolutely not true. The current government is trying to maximize the use of all mechanisms that would return the Crimea to Ukraine and the Crimean Tatar factor is one of the dominant.
But if we go back to the days of February 2014, there was nobody to rely on, except for the Crimean Tatars. Mogilev is well aware of this: he is one of those many who left Crimea in the early days of annexation, instead of acting,” Chubarov said, as quoted by 15 minut agency.
According to the Chairman of the Mejlis, Mogilev is creating such myths when this issue becomes relevant. However, the ex-minister of Crimea forgets to mention that he escaped from the peninsula in those days, when the Crimean Tatars opposed the annexation.
“One of these issues is whether to register the Mejlis or not. Second is a particular threat posed by Kurultai and the system of national government for independent Ukraine, the statement that we aim to build a state in Crimea. It seems, so much time has passed since that moment, when this thesis was first announced, and since that time a lot of things have confirmed the Crimean Tatars talk about their self-determination as a part of independent Ukraine ... And this position was expressed in those days when Russian troops and soldiers invaded Crimea, when that power - Mogilev power - abandoned Crimea, and we were in the streets and on the roads. And we stated that it was illegal, that the Crimea is Ukraine,” said Refat Chubarov.
Earlier, the ex-Prime minister of Crimea Anatoly Mogilev in an interview to "Gordon" stated that the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people were dangerous for the Ukrainian statehood, since the Mejlis allegedly aims to create in Crimea an independent, sovereign state of the Crimean Tatar, which contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine
