Refat Chubarov, Head of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, reported an increased pressure on activists of the Crimean Tatar national movement in Crimea on his Facebook page.
“Today a flurry of searches of Crimean Tatars homes is being conducted in Crimea. The activists of the Crimean Tatar national movement are being interrogated. There are searches of the houses belonging to: Damir Minadirov (Yalta), Bakhtiyar Topuz (Yalta) Rustem Osmanov (Bakhchisarai), Nariman Mamedinov (the village of Holmovka Bakhchisarai district; he was detained and taken to Sevastopol after the search), Arsen Khalilov (the village of Holmovka Bakhchisarai district), Emir Usein Kuku, a member of the Human Rights Contact Group (Yalta; arrested after the search),” wrote Refat Chubarov.
Just a reminder: Nariman Jelal, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars, was also summoned for questioning to the “prosecutor’s office” in Simferopol. During the interrogation, the “prosecutor” demanded explanations as for the activities of the Mejlis "in connection with the received complaints of citizens." Upon completion of the interrogation Nariman Jalal was released.
“The human rights situation in the occupied Crimea is deteriorating day by day. It should be noted that the occupation authorities direct the entire arsenal of repressions against the Crimean Tatars,” Chubarov stated.
