Speaker of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov appealed to the residents of Crimea with a request to boycott the elections to the State Duma of Russia September 18, 2016. The leader of the Crimean Tatar people recorded his appeal on video and posted it on his Facebook page.
“September 18, 2016, Russia is to hold the Election of Deputies to the State Duma of the Russian Federation General Assembly.
Contrary to International law and the warnings of the International organizations, the Russian Federation intends to hold elections to the State Duma of Russia on the territory of the occupied Crimea as well.
Organization and carrying out the elections of Deputies to the State Duma of Russia in Crimea, which is an integral part of Ukraine, are illegal and criminal. Accordingly, the elections organizers are criminals and the representatives to be elected are illegitimate.
The question then arises on the legitimacy of all the newly elected State Duma Members. Since the State Duma formation will be carried out in clear violation of the International humanitarian law.
Russian Federation is conscious of the legal nullity and the criminal nature of elections in the annexed Crimea. Nevertheless the occupants plan to use the fact of the election as a new propaganda argument, allegedly confirming the results and the legitimacy of the Crimean referendum that Russia imitated on March 16, 2014.
Undoubtedly, all the attempts of the RF to force the International community and Ukraine recognize the status of the Russian-occupied Crimea, are doomed.
The Russian occupying authority in Crimea and their servants on the ground are trying to involve the entire adult population of the peninsula into a contributory infringement.
Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people calls on the residents of Crimea over the age of 18 to completely boycott all stages of organization and carrying out of the illegal elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the occupied Crimea.
Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people explained that under the current legislation of the Russian Federation, a citizen can not be forced to participate or not participate in the elections, as well as prohibited to express free will.
Accordingly, the non-participation in the elections of September 18, 2016 is allowed under the laws of the Russian invaders and is not punishable.
Ballot strike on September 18, 2016 is a peaceful and non-violent form of resistance to Russian invaders which is available to every honest person.
Ballot strike on September 18, 2016 is our support for the political prisoners and their families.
September 18, 2016 no honest person is to enter the polling stations in Crimea.
September 18, let the Russian invaders see the true unity of the Crimean Tatar people and all the patriots of the Crimea before they quickly leave our land.”
