During the annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in March 2014, the ambassadors of European countries and the United States have repeatedly asked the Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars not to provoke the Russian military into dynamic actions. Such a statement was made by Refat Chubarov, the Mejlis Chairman, on the air of Svoboda Slova on ICTV, February 29.
“I was in touch with the respective ambassadors of European countries and the United States for days on end. And there was always a request: do not let provoke the Russian military into more decisive actions. It will take some time and we will find a solution. Do not let yourself be provoked - it was the main and the only message of our Western partners, in particular, to me,” said Refat Chubarov.
Just a reminder: The transcript of the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of 28 February 2014 (during Russian occupation of Crimea) was declassified at the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defence on February 22.
