Deputy head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people says his case is a political order, amid the Crimean Supreme Court has dismissed his appeal and upheld his detention till Feb 19.

“I believe that my arrest is wrongful. Charges preferred against me have no concern with me. This is a political order. If there is a court in this country, it should have eyes, should asses and take relevant measures”- Chiygoz said during the court hearing in Simferopol.

“Unfortunately, we do not expect any legal and just decision regarding the case. We live in a situation when no norms or laws are working. All the arguments made by the defense are not taking into consideration. All this is made under one’s order”- Chiygoz’s wife Elmira Ablyalimova said.

Akhtem Chiygoz, arrested Jan 29, is charged with organizing “mass disorder” which caused two deaths during a meeting Feb 26, 2014, when thousands of Crimean Tatars rallied at Crimean Parliament building, showing their support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Criminal case was opened against Chiygoz. Supreme Court of Crimea Feb 6 dismissed his appeal. He will be detained till Feb 19.

Bakhchisaray Mejlis plans a rally to show their support for Chiygoz, still all the appeals of Mejlis to arrange mass events in Crimea are rejected by Crimean authorities in recents months.
