The representative of the United States Department of Foreign Affairs Mark Toner has shared new information about the ceasefire in Syria at the last press conference.
As a result of a telephone conversation between the US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the ceasefire initially declared for the period of seven days was extended for a further 48 hours, that is, for two days.
Toner also said that the number of conflicts after the introduction of the ceasefire has decreased, although the Assad forces still carry out attacks on the positions of the Syrian opposition, in violation of the agreement.
The US called on Russia to use its influence on Assad to provide Syrian civilians with humanitarian aid.
The ceasefire in Syria started on September 12, on the first day of the holy Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, as a result of the negotiations between the US and Russian.
However, on the first day of Eid al-Adha Russian fighters and the Assad regime forces carried out a series of attacks on Syrian cities killing 34 people.
