In the interview with AA News Agency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu commented on the meeting between Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. In the context of international relations Cavusoglu made several statements.
Yesterday the President of Turkey said that FETÖ organization is aimed at the Russian-Turkish relations:
Unfortunately, the FETÖ is openly trying to destroy Turkey's relations not only with Russia but with other countries as well, said Mevlut Cavusoglu during the interview.
Minister also commented on the Russia-Turkey decision to cooperate in the defense sector:
There are countries that develop defense cooperation with countries outside NATO. Up until now Turkey has been cooperating with NATO member states. But we are not pleased with the results obtained. Therefore it is quite normal that we began to search for new allies. But we do not believe it is a step against NATO.
According to Cavusoglu, Turkey needs to establish its own defense system and cooperate with other countries in order to develop their own technologies.
If the West does not cooperate with us, we are obliged to look for other allies. We need to develop our own technology, we are obliged to ensure safety and create our own defense system, said Mevlut Cavusoglu.
As QHA reported earlier, on Tuesday, August 9, at St. Petersburg hosted a meeting between the Presidents of Turkey and Russia. Erdogan-Putin meeting was the first since the ebb in the bilateral relations between the countries.
