Sanctions against the aggressor country are working, but a real disaster for the Kremlin will be a democratic and economic success of Ukraine, the head of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Elmar Brok said in an interview with Interfax.
"I think the worst thing that could happen to Russia is if Ukraine becomes a democratic and economically successful state with a rule of law. It would be a disaster for the Kremlin, and therefore it is very important to carry out all the reforms. In this regard, Ukraine has made significant progress," the European official said.
According to him, the EU should continue to encourage the reform process in the country, because the goal of the Russian aggression is to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.
As QHA reported earlier, the European Union with five partner countries approved on October 25 the extension of sanctions against Russia until March 15, 2017.
