The British Foreign Office has urged Russia to drop support of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad according to the U.K. Foreign Secretary as cited by The Times, Politico informs.

Reportedly, the politician criticized the Kremlin's current position regarding the Syrian authorities, stressing that Assad is responsible for the thousands of deaths among the Syrian people during the war.

“When the Russians are asked to explain this seemingly indefensible conduct they reply with one stubborn question, the question with which we began: What then? What follows Assad?” Johnson said.

He believes that, as long as Assad is in power in Damascus, there will be no Syria to govern.
