VILNIUS (QHA) -

In Vilnius, within a framework of a meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars, attended by 21 representatives of the Congress Executive Committee and members of the Audit Commission, Namık Kemal Bayar said that following the occupation of Crimea about 20 thousand Crimean Tatars have been forced to leave their homes:

- The Crimean Tatar people fight for their Home (Homeland). But the question is not only about the country. These days we are going to fight for our life.

Following the occupation of Crimea about 20 thousand Crimean Tatars had to leave their homes. We all want to live in our Homeland. After the first occupation in 1783, after the collapse of the Crimean Khanate, close to 1.5 million of the Crimean Tatars also had to leave their homes, and we, all those present here, are the children of those people.

Now all Crimean Tatars want to live in their Homeland, as the Lithuanians want to live in their Homeland, as the Ukrainians want to live in their native land. And we want the Russians also to live in their own land, the Ukraine’s Presidential Commissioner on the Affairs of the Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Dzhemilev reported on Facebook.

The World Congress of the Crimean Tatar people (WCCT) is the structure uniting the Crimean Tatars who live in their historic homeland, in Crimea, as well as in the Diasporas (Turkey, Romania, Poland, USA, Canada, Lithuania, Western Europe and Central Asia).

The first session of the World Congress of the Crimean Tatars was held on May 9, 2009 in Simferopol / Akmesdzhit and attended by 420 delegates from 13 countries with Refat Chubarov being elected the Chairman.
