Hundreds of Baku residents have staged a protest rally over the rising costs of fuel and food products, RFE/RL reports.

Protesters chanted antigovernment slogans and called on the country's President Ilham Aliyev to resign, accusing him of corruption and falsifying the results of the October 9 presidential election.

The sanctioned rally was organized by the National Council of Democratic Forces, led by former presidential candidate Jamil Hasanli.

He urged the protesters to continue "to fight the dictatorship in Azerbaijan until democracy prevails" in the country.

Protesters also expressed support and solidarity with the ongoing antigovernment rally in Kyiv.

Top Azerbaijani opposition figure, Isa Gambar, has traveled to the Ukrainian capital to deliver a speech to antigovernment protesters there on behalf of the Azerbaijani opposition.
