ASTANA (QHA) -

The process of negotiating on a truce in the war-torn Syria, launched on January 23, continued today from 6:30 a.m. Kyiv time. The main topics of discussion are all the parties’ requirements voiced on the first day.

The second day of the talks in Astana (Kazakhstan) started with a general meeting with the participation of both the representatives of Bashar al-Assad repressive regime and the Syrian opposition. Further talks are held with each of the parties separately.

The opposition has discussed its basic requirements for Assad with the joint delegation of Turkey, Russia and the UN, demanding to terminate the ceasefire introduced December 30, to withdraw pro-Iranian militia from the territory of Syria, to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid in the areas blocked by the regime, as well as release of the women in prisons, kept in custody for political reasons.

Russia and the UN conveyed all the claims by the opposition to the representatives of the Syrian government.

In the negotiations, supporters of Assad in turn required only to suspend hostilities, to divide the opponents of the regime into the moderate opposition and terrorists.

While negotiations continue in the Kazakh capital, the Assad regime has organized air and ground operations in the Syrian opposition-controlled areas - Lazkiye provinces, Hama, Aleppo, Darayya and Damascus.

Earlier the rebels refused the first session of talks in tête-à-tête format on Monday, accusing the government of Bashar al-Assad of violating the truce reached on December 30 with the mediation of Russia and Turkey.
