On August 13, 2015, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk held a meeting with Mustafa Jemilev, President of Ukraine’s Commissioner for Crimean Tatars, and Refat Chubarov, President of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars and Head of Mejlis.

Mustafa Jemilev and Refat Chubarov briefed Prime Minister on the results of the Second World Congress of the Crimean Tatars, which took place in Ankara on August 1-2, 2015. They also underscored the fact that the Crimean Tatars hold in high esteem the uncompromising stand taken by Ukraine and its government, which guarantees protection and realization of their inalienable right to self-determination as part of a sovereign and independent Ukraine.

A special emphasis was placed on the problems of Crimean Tatars being discriminated against by the occupation authorities, kidnappings and disappearances of people, private houses and mosques being raided, as well as people’s dignity and memory being humiliated.

The participants reached an understanding that the Ukrainian government, civil society and international community need to consolidate efforts to protect essential human rights and freedoms for Crimean Tatars, press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine reports.
