OTTAWA (QHA) -

The agreement on a comprehensive cease-fire in Syria, approved by Turkey and Russia, is not sufficient for full settlement of the conflict in the country, Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion said, calling for the implementation of the political steps to solve the Syrian conflict:

“Canada urges all parties to the conflict to commit themselves to long-term peace through a political process,” Dion said.

As QHA reported earlier, Turkey and Russia agreed on a plan for a comprehensive truce in Syria, providing for a ceasefire at midnight on December 30.

Notably, the Foreign Ministers of Iran, Russia and Turkey Mohammad Zarif, Sergei Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu adopted a joint communiqué on further actions to resolve the conflict in Syria during the trilateral meeting in Moscow on December 21. The document states that Turkey and Russia take on the obligations of the guarantors of the future agreement between the Syrian government and the opposition.
